As we all know, major electric utilities are monolithic monopolies even though monopolies aren’t supposed to exist. Not only can they bump up rates to pay for power plants that won’t get built (thanks to an adoring Public Service Commission, the state entity that’s supposed to be regulating them), they also currently have been embracing cheap, renewable energy at a rate that’s less-than-exciting. And now they want to frack and build a giant natural gas pipeline that cuts through critical wetlands. But at least we have people like Glickman tirelessly fighting for what’s left of Florida’s environmental health and consumer access to renewable energy.
