Grouper is deeply controversial, the Fishwich is deeply fried, so where does one turn for the perfect fish sandwich? Pane Rustica. Delicious food is pretty much guaranteed there anyway, but oh, that blackened amberjack sandwich with avocado, tomato, aioli and field greens. Co-owner Kevin Kruszewski muses that its appeal has something to do with how the cool richness of the avocado offsets the spiciness of the fish, but anyway you slice it, this is an incredibly good sandwich — especially on toasted Rustic bread and washed down with Pane Rustica’s delicately flavored iced tea.
