BEST LOCAL BLOG

St. Petersblog

There are no less than three local blogs named St. Petersblog, so let’s be clear: The winner here is not the photo essay blog, nor is it the former blog of political consultant Peter Schorsch. The winning St. Petersblog, or “The Splog,” is the newest of the bunch, started in May, and it has a wicked sense of humor and informative posts that aren’t exactly heavy lifting but do point out the bullshit in town. Like exposing the way that Albertson’s on 38th Avenue spells “insplraional” for its health/inspirational book section. Or “A day in the life of Susan’s balls,” a take on a lecture delivered by Steven/Susan Stanton. It’s written by three authors “who remain relatively anonymous for a variety of reasons, the primary of which is that we are trying to avoid the many pitfalls of stardom — it is only a mat-ter of time before the paparazzi start following us to the Emerald. In actuality, we happen to be a mixture of transplants and locals who all love St. Pete but are disheartened by how disjointed it is. It seems like we’re sitting on a goldmine of culture and the proper hipster level necessary to make something happen.” We feel ya, brothers and/or sisters. stpetersblog.com.
