To those that grew up skating there, it was an escape from boredom and grownups. A culture developed at the skatepark, which debuted at Perry Harvey Sr. Park in 1979. Alas, despite major outcry from those who skated there over the years (and a historic designation), the park didn’t fit into plans for the area, which includes a housing complex and a public park. The city did agree to create a replica of the Bro Bowl, which will be installed at the north end of the complex, but those who fought hard to have the original one preserved don’t think it’ll be the same.
