Hernando County

Growing pot is big business in Florida, which ranks No. 2 in the nation (after California) for indoor marijuana cultivation. And in West Central Florida, our closest commerce center for the good green is Hernando County. Last year, police seized nearly 3,000 marijuana plants from Hernando — more than Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsborough counties combined. The reason? Over the last few years, illicit gardeners have found less scrutiny in small bedroom communities like Spring Hill. Just think of it as the real-life Florida version of the hit TV series Weeds.
