Bern's unveiled its first new menu changes in 40 years recently, its new dishes tested and re-tested over four years by Executive Chef Jeannie Pierola. She managed to incorporate a flashy new amalgam into a beloved old standard, and in one deft move improved a restaurant that was already one of the nation's finest to one that is still revered but is now closer to the ever-changing culinary cutting edge. Now, in addition to the half-million bottles occupying its world-famous wine list, we can pick from 14 different steak sauces, eat a new tropical fruit salad with a macadamia nut dressing, and even bring non-meat-eating friends to enjoy the veggie plate.
