Though he’s best known in the Bay area as an actor, McColgan designed a set for Hat Trick Theatre’s Neville’s Island that was more impressive than anything his more specialized colleagues managed all year. This was one of the most convincing outdoor environments ever placed in the Straz Center’s Shimberg Playhouse: a peninsula offering rocks and shrubs and trees and pools of water, and so attractive and believable, you could only regret that it wasn’t built for a better play. In any case: First class work. hattricktheatre.org
