Back in February, prolific singer/songwriter Geri X returned with another consistently gripping, self-produced record of intelligent, heart-on-sleeve indie-folk fittingly dubbed Anthems of a Mended Heart. Her past emphasis on pathos has largely been replaced on this disc by a measured, life-affirming attitude. Although the songs are sunnier this time round, the singers formula for success remains the same: She holds listeners rapt with lyrics that deftly position vivid diary details against evocatively surreal imagery and rich metaphors. And her breathy vocals remain alluring throughout. myspace.com/gerix
