When ex-Vinyl Fever employees Carl Webb and Keith Ulrey announced their intentions of opening an indie record shop in artsy Seminole Heights, locals breathed a collective sigh of relief and showed up in droves for Microgroove's grand opening in December. Whether the petite vinyl-oriented shop can sustain itself in such uncertain financial times remains to be seen, but those of us who already love Microgroove's laid-back ambiance, clued-in staff and high-quality stock of new and used merch are holding out hope and returning frequently to enjoy it for as long as it lasts. Webb made an amicable exit from the venture this month, selling his half of the biz to Ulrey and making him Microgroove's sole proprietor. He and wife Susie will have plenty on their plate this fall, what with running both the shop and their record label and promotions company, New Granada, and playing now-active band Rec Center. We’ll be rooting them on from the sidelines. 4906 N. Florida Ave., Tampa, 813-667-7089,microgroovetampa.com.(Read more about Keith and Susie here.)
