In 2006, Americans purchased $10 billion worth of bottled water, which works out to 28 gallons and about $33 for every man, woman and child in the country, about 40 percent of it filtered straight from the tap. (I’m looking at you, Aquafina.) Since only a quarter of the bottles are recycled, the landfills are full of the stuff. Trendsetting restaurants in other parts of the country have stopped selling bottled water entirely. Cue crying Indian guy.
