If you've ever read the single panel cartoon Bizarro, it's unlikely you'd forget it — Dan Piraro's twisted sense-of-humor is very different from that of cartoonists who generate the watered-down wit found in Cathy or Peanuts comic strips. For the last two decades, the award-winning Bizarro has garnered a devout legion of fans who love Piraro's mix of the surreal and the satirical. But even if you're unfamiliar with his work, we suggest that you attend his multimedia presentation "Cartoons, Comedy and Compassion," an overview of Piraro's storied career and a charity event to benefit Florida Voices for Animals. Sun., April 1, 6 p.m., Octagon Arts Center-Utilitarian Universalist Church of Clearwater, 2470 Nursery Road, Clearwater, $6.50 general/$3.50 students, 813-600-6949, bizarroartist.com.
