Hackworth says he will contributions to his campaign to $100 and only from individuals "not developers, corporations or from those with business before the County Commission."

Hackworth has also hired environmental activist Darden Rice as his campaign manager.

He will officially declare his candidacy this Saturday night, at the Pinellas County Democratic Executive Committee's Kennedy/King dinner this Saturday night in St. Petersburg.

To the surprise of virtually no one, former Dunedin Mayor Bob Hackworth says he will run against Pinellas County GOP Commissioner Susan Latvala this November.

Hackworth is a former Republican himself who switched parties and ran and lost against Bill Young for Congress in November of 2008.    He said at the time that he was inspired by Barack Obama and left the GOP.

Now he says it's centrist Democrat Evan Bayh who he says is inspiring him this time.  Bayh stunned Washington last week when he announced he would not run for re-election this November, despite what analysts said was still a good chance he would be victorious.  Hackworth said,

The peoples business is not being done in Pinellas, either. My response to that is to run a campaign that puts message in front of money: Social progress, practical problem solving, and leadership for a brighter and more secure economic future.
