In a surprising twist (or pull), Corbett Canyon's non-vintage 3-liter box Merlot won Best of Class in this year’s San Francisco Chronicle wine competition. Since the judges taste all wines blind, no one knew they were loving the box.
A 3-liter cask (the fancy name for the box) houses four normal, 750-ml bottles and the Corbett Canyon Merlot costs $10. That places it firmly in the value category as well. 2009 wine judge G.M. Pooch Pucilowski seemed ecstatic at the news: "It's a great day for consumers when the best category wine is also the best value in the market." The results.
