The Gulf Coast Museum of Art opens its much anticipated new exhibit, Will Boys Be Boys? Questioning Adolescent Masculinity in Contemporary Art. Nineteen nationally recognized artists — Slater Bradley, Tim Gardner and Janine Gordon, to name a few — examine the nature of adolescent masculinity in art from the past five years. The exhibit is broken up into three sections. The first examines the rituals and activities of adolescent males via photography, video and photo-realist watercolors; the second focuses on the idea of image and includes photography and video; and the third uses abstract sculpture to explore the symbols and objects with which adolescent males associate themselves. In conjunction, the museum hosts Xtreme Classical, a concert of original music created and performed by Charlie Souza and featuring the resident string chamber ensemble of the Florida Composers Forum (Sat., May 13, 1 p.m., $12 general/$10 students and seniors); and a screenings of Kids, Larry Clark's boundary-breaking documentary-like film about a group of drug-using, unprotected sex-having Manhattan teenagers (Sat.-Sun., May 13-14, 2 p.m.). May 13-July 2, GCMA, Pinewood Cultural Park, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo, $8 adults/$6 seniors/$5 students with valid I.D. (free for members and children 10 and younger), 727-518-6833, www.gulfcoastmuseum.org. Leilani Polk
