A historic home with ties to a legendary sea captain and a legendary hotel developer is now on the market in St. Pete Beach.
Located at 3401 Casablanca Ave., the home was originally built in 1928 for Thomas Rowe, the developer behind the nearby Don CeSar Hotel, also known as “The Pink Lady.”
The home is actually one of six built in the area by Rowe, and was used as his main residence for a period until his death in 1940, according to an archived article in the St. Petersburg Times.
The home has a had a number of owners over the years, but arguably the most famous (besides Rowe) was Capt. Wilson Hubbard, owner of Hubbard’s Pier in Pass-a-Grille and later, the popular Hubbard’s Marina at John’s Pass Boardwalk.
The accomplished captain and businessman passed away in 1994, but the home stayed within the family until 2019, according to property records.
In 2020, the home was designated a historic landmark by the City of St. Pete Beach.
Today, the 2,734-square-foot home comes with five bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as a wood burning fireplace, a detached two car garage, original glass door handles, and plenty of modern upgrades, says the listing.
The Rowe/Hubbard House is currently asking $1.75 million, and the listing agent is Sarah Strobel of Charles Rutenberg Realty.
