Cell phone tower protest in South Tampa, HART board members fret over transit discussions, and could the current problems at the Hillsborough BOCC create momentum for a county mayor? Mitch Perry Report 3.16.10

Late yesterday we were down at the corner of Manhattan and Henderson in South Tampa, where protesters upset about the Tampa City Council granting (on first hearing) a major variance for a cell phone tower in the area let their voice be heard;

There was a lot of discussion at yesterday's HART meeting on possible light rail stations in the future.  But by the end of the meeting, officials realized that might not ever happen anytime soon unless consensus forms around getting a ballot proposal approved for transit;

And the fates of Hillsborough County officials Pat Bean, Renee Lee and Jim Barnes will again be debated on Wednesday;  We think the problems there could be the best thing for a potential ballot measure seeking a change in county governance this fall;
