Keep hitting the shutter button. It's my mantra. If there is a picture to be taken, take it. I prefer 100 images with mediocre meaning over a truck load of missed opportunities. Carry a camera, go where the subject is, and take the picture.

I have been behind the lens for about 20 years. I teach photography, photo editing, and lighting at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. You can see both my professional and personal work and information about my instruction on my web site www.chipshotz.com.

There is something about a good still photograph that inspires emotion and tells a story like no other art form. With the proliferation of video cameras in every mobile phone owner's hands, videos are everywhere. But they will never have the same impact as a good still picture. They won't have the artistic and iconic value of a Richard Avedon or an Alfred Eisenstaedt print. They will never evoke the emotions of an Eddie Adams image. This is why I shoot, to capture life in the fraction of a second and to inspire others to do the same.
