Local recycling activist Mary DeGeorge-Hampton has scheduled a discussion on recycling and sustainability at the Seminole Community Library (Program room A) on Monday, February 1, from 10 am to 12 pm.
As an activist, while Mary feels that our community is making strides in terms of resource conservation, she believes that increased community participation will result in far greater success.
Mary, moved from New York to Florida two years ago. In New York, she established a paper recycling program at the 1,200 student school in which she taught. In addition, Mary is a member of the Pinellas County Utilities Technical Management Committee (recycling subcommittee) which meets at the Solid Waste Management Plant in St. Petersburg.
The group will welcome guest speaker, Barbara Arthur, volunteer of Morningstar Fishermen. Barbara will show the video "Aquaponics" and will educate citizens on the breeding of tilapia and culturing of plants and vegetables using the fascinating method of aquaponics. There will be open discussion following the presentation.
