CL's must-do list for the week of

Thurs., Dec. 7-Wed., Dec. 13

07The Playmakers: Amazing Origins of Timeless Toys author Tim Walsh talks about the history of toys, gameboards and other retro playthings at the St. Petersburg Museum of History's Holiday Party, Lecture and Membership Drive. 6:30-9 p.m., 727-894-1052.

08Allman Brothers bassist Oteil Burbridge packs chops but his musicianship is often overshadowed by the band's star talents. His stellar improvisational skills, technical prowess and jazzy scatting are showcased in his own band, Oteil and the Peacemakers, which performs at Skipper's Smokehouse tonight. 8 p.m., 813-971-0666.

09 If you're not a fan of George Carlin (or not a fan of the wads of cash it takes to see Carlin live), we suggest checking out a set of stand-up by frequent Conan O'Brien guest Jim Gaffigan. ("Don't worry, I've never heard of me, either.") 7 and 10 p.m., Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.

10 Eckerd College Concert Choir and Ringers, and the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Children's Choir perform a festive program of music with full orchestral accompaniment during the Everlasting Light Christmas Concert. 5:30 p.m., First United Methodist Church.

11Glenn Beck is just another annoying, self-serving, conservative talk radio host who was (God help us) given his own primetime program on CNN Headline News. But some folks enjoy his hateful rhetoric, especially when it's delivered in an elegant setting like Ruth Eckerd Hall. 7:30 p.m., 727-791-7400.

12 Tonight marks the first show of the Hairspray tour, which stops in the Bay area every year like clockwork. 7:30 p.m., TBPAC.

13 Santa Lucia Day is a special part of Sweden's Advent-Christmas tradition. The [email protected] hosts a St. Lucia Celebration with readings and storytelling about the history of Lucia in both English and Swedish. 6:30-8:30 p.m., 727-895-6620.

Dec. 14-16, Lewis Black's One Slight Hitch — A Staged Reading, TBPAC,

Dec. 15-17, The Florida Orchestra presents Beethoven's Immortal Ninth,

Dec. 17, BT and Thomas Dolby, State Theatre, 727-895-3045.
