This Commissioner Kevin shovel-ready White, D – Turnip story just never seems to run out of dirt.
Recall during my account of last week's events (where our County Commission finally voted to sue White to get some of our $500,000 back from his sexual harassment suit) I thought it was strange that White actually voted? As it turns out, it was inappropriate for White to vote on whether or not to sue himself, in fact, it violated state law. CL contributor Chris Ingram immediately filed an ethics complaint on White and our own George Niemann already had an ethics complaint on White regarding White's sex scandal.
I found it strange that in this article late Thursday about White failing to abstain from that vote, done by Bill Varian over at the Times , White was quoted as saying this:
"I was under the impression that if it was a conflict that our competent county attorney would have brought it to my attention," White said. "Since she did not, I assumed that I could vote."
and then the story broke about Ingram's complaint early Friday morning on the Daily Loaf and and by the afternoon Bay Buzz had picked up on it. By the Saturday article White's story had completely changed as he is quoted in this piece by Michael Van Sickler of the Times as saying:
When reached by phone on Friday, White said he had been confused when he voted.
"It was just me hitting the wrong button," White said.
Asked if that meant he mistakenly pushed the "no" button when he meant instead to push the "abstain" button, White replied: "Yesterday, it was a blur. I don't know why. It was daunting."
Big difference between thinking you could vote because the attorney didn't tell you not to and accidentally hitting the wrong button when you meant not to vote. According to that same article in the Times he emailed the County Attorney and copied fellow Commissioners Friday morning in part saying:
