South Florida writer Jeff Lindsay visits the Bay area to celebrate the launch of the next installment of his creepy series about Dexter, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Dade Police Department and sharp-witted serial killer who adheres to one simple rule of conduct: to kill murderers, child molesters and other deviants who've somehow managed to escape justice. In the third book, Dexter in the Dark, our vigilante protagonist is called to investigate a gruesome double homicide at the university campus. But his "Dark Passenger" — the cold, bloodthirsty conscience that drives Dexter's homicidal tendencies — senses something that distresses it enough to send it into hiding, leaving Dexter to face this case all by his lonesome and while planning the impending wedding to his oblivious fiancée Rita. Inkwood Books hosts the local book release party with Lindsay and in addition to a reading and signing, guests enjoy a screening of an episode of the Showtime series, which is based on the books. Wed., Sept. 19, 7 p.m., 216 S. Armenia Ave., Tampa, free admission, 813-253-2638.
