This little tidbit came across the transom too late to make it into Planet Picks or the Music Menu, but we feel it warrants an advance because, frankly and at the risk of sounding a bit sexist, we're really looking forward to watching tall, hot girls with tattoos beat the shit out of each other while wearing roller skates.
Bay area roller derby club The Derby Darlins will hold its second fundraising party this Sunday, March 19 at Ybor City's Orpheum. The first, held at renowned St. Pete watering hole the Emerald a couple of months back, was a roaring success; the bar was so packed that several dozen folks chose to hang around in front of the place, in flagrant punk-rock disregard for Pinellas County's laws regarding drinking in public. This time around, the Darlins will be on the Hillsborough side of the bay, and are hoping to outdo what was certainly a tough shindig to beat. The revelry commences at 7 p.m., and the $5 cover ($7 if you're under 21, sorry kids) gets you access to raffles, killer merch, and performances by Car Bomb Driver, The Dukes of Hillsborough, and The Degenerate Elite.
