Discussion: Book 2.0

Thursday, April 10

Newspapers are experiencing a slow and painful death. What about books? Will they stand up to the mechanizations of the Information Age? Is literature obsolete? The USF Humanities Institute sponsors a two-day symposium, Book 2.0, which asks these very questions. Several noted scholars, as well as various USF faculty members, gather to discuss the history and future of knowledge, information and how to communicate both. Domna Stanton, a noted scholar, writer, former president of the Modern Language Association and current professor at the Graduate Center of CUNY, delivers the opening address, "The Book, the Academy and Their Discontents." In addition, Russ Ganim, co-director of the University of Nebraska Center for Digital Research in the Humanities and a specialist in baroque poetry and neoclassical literature, leads a discussion titled "Old Books, New Readers, Old Readers, New Books: Digital Literacy for our Time." April 10-11, 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Thurs., 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fri., USF-Tampa Library, 4202 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, free and open to public, 813-974-4014.
