Do It This Weekend: S'Real Friday, Future of Music, Oddlie, Snow White and more

The antithesis of the modern fairy tale, Oddlie is the story of a nearly-mute girl who lives on a garbage heap and rarely speaks but loves to sing. Aleshea Harris, who starred in local productions of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuff and Gem of the Ocean, brings Oddlie to life through song, spoken word and theater. This one woman-play about magic and the power of poetry continues the Studio@620’s trend of pushing the boundaries of popular entertainment in Tampa Bay, offering a fresh perspective among a plethora of traditional offerings.  July 23-25, Thurs.-Sat., 7:30 p.m., The Studio@620, 620 1st Ave. S., St. Petersburg, $20, $15 students and seniors, 727-895-6620, studio620.org.—Franki Weddington

Sure, it might’ve contributed to every little girl’s delusional fantasy of being carried off into a cartoon[image-1] sunset by Prince Charming, setting them up for a lifetime of disappointment and heartache, but Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is also one of the most culturally significant films of all time. Walt Disney brought the timeless tale to the silver screen more than 70 years ago as the first of his full-length films, and the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art recognizes his contribution to the world of movies (and the world of marketing, and the world at large) by presenting Snow White as this month’s installment in the Decade Series, a collection of films that “focus on the social, political, cultural and artistic developments of the decade from 1930 to 1940.” 1:30 p.m. Sun., July 26, Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art auditorium, 600 Klosterman Rd., Tarpon Springs, free, 727-712-5762, spcollege.edu/museum.—Franki Weddington

Learn to turn your garden into a sustainable, pesticide-free source of tasty fruits and veggies at the Tropical Delight Plant Faire . Find everything you need to begin or add to your garden, like all-organic pepper plants, herbs, seeds, "tropical edibles" and butterfly plants. Speakers, including garden columnist Monica Moran Brandies, provide tips and tricks for maintaining your Florida greenery, and vendors offer herb and garden books, organic clothing, gourmet vinegar and live Caribbean music. Sun., July 26, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Organic Herb Nursery, 2211 Ray Rd., Valrico.

An arty twist to the beginning of the weekend, S'Real Fridays include a variety of jazz in the cafe, screenings of unusual silent films, complimentary hors d'oeuvres and, of course, access to the country's largest collection of Salvador Dalí works. Every Friday through Aug. 28 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Salvador Dalí Museum, 1000 Third St. S., St. Petersburg,$8.50.727-823-3767, salvadordalimuseum.org.
