Doonesbury comic strip takes on Rick Perry's abortion law

The strip, which may or may not appear in your local newspaper this week, portrays a woman seeking an abortion at a Texas clinic. In one panel, a doctor reads a script provided by Governor Rick Perry, welcoming the woman to a "compulsory transvaginal exam." In another section, a Texas legislator calls the woman a "slut."

While the strip is undoubtedly left-leaning, it is not nearly as controversial as Trudeau's personal views on the law. In an interview with the Washington Post, Trudeau calls the ultrasound device used in the procedure a "10-inch shaming wand," and he compares the invasive sonogram to rape:

"The World Health Organization defines rape as 'physically forced or otherwise coerced penetration — even if slight — of the vulva or anus, using a penis, other body parts or an object.' You tell me the difference."

In response to a Texas law requiring doctors to perform pre-abortion sonograms to shame women into going through with unwanted pregnancies, Garry Trudeau has penned a controversial Doonesbury comic strip to address the law, which he describes as "lunacy."
