The next big thing from Great Britain might very well be female pop trio The Pipettes, whose gorgeous single "Judy" is equal parts Go-Gos and Supremes. Playing like a mini John Hughes flick, it's about a less attractive but infinitely wiser young woman befriending the cruel beauty who wreaks havoc on the other girls. "I know I'm not as hot as you, but I think I can see right through you," goes the priceless lyric. "Judy, what are you gonna do when you're older, and no one wants to know you?" It's a hummable ditty with smarts that puts the listener right back inside those crowded, locker-lined hallways, ready to do it all over again, but with a bit more tact this time around.
