937 Douglas Ave., Dunedin, 727-736-0606, dunedinbrewery.com
One of only three microbrewery producer/distributors in Florida, the 12-year-old Dunedin standby is not just a venue but an attraction that serves all its own handcrafted ales on tap. The building is a converted garage, the roll-up doors replaced with big windows that look out onto Douglas Avenue. The room is small but made open and airy with high ceilings. Towering stainless steel brewing equipment is exposed behind the long, stool-studded counter. Tables are scattered around the tiny stage area. Dunedin Brewery generally caters to the local music scene, though it's been known to bring in the occasional regional and national jam bands.
Memories Back in Sept. '07, Bobby Lee Rodgers played a show with his newly re-formed Codetalkers, raising the roof with spirited bluegrass- and jazz-informed rock 'n' roll. Ted Freed — manager, promoter, booking agent, musician and general scene stalwart who was battling cancer at the time and lost the fight this past March — opened the show with a mish-mash of guest players performing Freed-selected covers.
