Electrolux unveils 'Vacs from the Sea', vacuums made from recycled ocean litter

One of these five special edition Ultra Green One models will be auctioned off, the proceeds donated to research, and the other four will go on tour. Hopefully, the standard model, made from 70% recycled plastic, will be in stores soon.

The Electrolux site states: "The vacuum cleaners embody the plastic paradox: oceans are full of plastic waste, yet on land there is a shortage of recycled plastic for producing sustainable vacuum cleaners. Electrolux makes Green Range vacuum cleaners from 70% recycled plastic, but wants to reach 100%."

, the Swedish the home appliance manufacturer, has created one-of-a-kind vacuums for their Vacs from the Sea campaign. Each one is adorned with plastic trash found in the North Sea, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Pacific Ocean and the Baltic Sea in an effort to spread the message to other big companies about using more recycled plastic in their products and to raise awareness about all of the junk polluting our oceans.

The front panels of the five different vacuums are covered with plastic litter collected from each of the five seas by divers, each model representing a different ocean from where its adornments were collected. The base models are Electrolux's new Ultra One Green vacuums and not only are they recycled works of art, they're also fully functioning vacuum cleaners.
