Evacuate

Car Bomb Driver

Many bands have tried to re-create the rebellious spirit and charm of The Ramones over the years — only to fail miserably. Veteran St. Pete punk Dave Reeder and his band Car Bomb Driver are the exception, with their new LP Evacuate ranking as a must-own for anyone interested in loud rock 'n' roll. Reeder's lyrics are gleefully irreverent, delivered with a sneer and a wink. Perhaps more important, the musicians have chops, a rarity among area punk bands these days. The guitar interplay between Shea Moxon and Joe Sonic is subtle brilliance, with each fill and classic-rock-channeling solo popping up at just the right moment. The rhythm section of drummer Matt Grimshaw and bassist Todd Johnson are spot-on, making listeners want to break something and maybe even booty shake. (Agent 45 Records) (Carbombdriver.com) 4 stars
