Facebook team coming to Tampa to train small biz on how to boost their presence

Although Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have all been around for several years now, the ability for businesses (and individuals) to use these social media tools to their economic benefit isn't an exact science, which is why there has become a whole industry created in offering skills to maximize search engine optimization on the Internet.

And for small businesses in the Tampa Bay area looking for an edge, who better than Facebook than to offer those tips?

That's what will be taking place next Thursday in Ybor City, when Facebook’s Small Business Boost will swing through Tampa to show how to optimize their presences on the world’s largest social network. The event will be co-hosted by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and will feature Congresswoman Kathy Castor as one of the attendees.

"I encouraged Facebook to visit Tampa to showcase modern communication tools for our local small businesses and entrepreneurs. Small businesses are the heart and soul of our community and provide a wide variety of job opportunities. I want them to grow and succeed,” said Rep. Castor. “Facebook will provide hands-on training on how to grow business by connecting to new, potential customers. I encourage our small business owners to mark their calendar for this free event.”

According to a press release issued from the social network, attendees will also hear tips, tricks and advice from local small businesspeople that have found success using Facebook.  In Tampa that will include St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, Buddy Brew coffee shop and 13 Fishing sporting goods.

There will be similar events taking place next week in Boca Raton and Miami, with Democratic Congressman Ted Deutsch at the Boca Raton event and Republicans  Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in Miami.

The event takes place next Thursday morning, October 16, from 10:30-12:00 p.m. at the Cuban Club (2nd Fl. Theater), 2010 Avenida Republica de Cuba. To register and for more information to http://fbTampa.eventbrite.com.
