New York theater critic Mortimer Brewster has problems. He’s given up his confirmed bachelorhood and conquered his commitment issues to wed his lovely sweetheart only to find that all his living family members are mental cases, most with homicidal tendencies. His two spinster aunts have been boarding lonely old men and poisoning them with arsenic-laced glasses of homemade wine as a charitable service. Their live-in nephew and Mortimer’s younger brother, Teddy, believes himself to be President Theodore Roosevelt and “digs locks” for the Panama Canal in the cellar, which then serve as graves for the aunts' victims. And Mortimer’s criminally insane older brother, Jonathan – who bears a striking resemblance to horror actor Boris Karloff due to a new facejob to hide his identity – just rolled into town with his alcoholic sidekick-cum-“plastic surgeon” Dr. Einstein, and they have a body to bury, too.
