Flamingo Resort’s Gayest Weekend of All Time

The pair performs tonight from 9 to 11 p.m. But the all-inclusive event goes beyond a simple comedy show. It offers three days of world-class performances — music, drag, dance, games, and more.

The show appeals to all of the letters of “LGBT” and those in between, Goldman said. “Gay, lesbian … it’s all about being around a group of like-minded people,” she said, whether you’re male, female, or transgender. “It’s completely diverse. There’s something for everyone.”

Also on the weekend’s lineup are legendary drag queens Erickatoure Aviance, Linda James, and others, playgirl cover model Greg McKeon, Goldman’s comedic writing partner Brandy Howard, DJ Nita and more.

The show's inspiration came from McGovern’s weekly podcast “Gay Pimpin’ with Jonny McGovern.” All of the participants, Goldman included, were regular guests on the show.

The pair settled on Flamingo because not only had McGovern performed there before, but it was an East Coast venue with everything they needed: hotel accommodations, several bars, a vast local LGBT population, affordability. "It has a really great local clientele," Goldman said. Hopefully if this first show goes well, the pair will organize more across the country, she added.

Goldman and McGovern’s collaboration goes back even further than the L.A.-based podcast. The two were stars of Logo’s “The Big Gay Sketch Show,” creating many iconic and hilarious sketches in the show’s three seasons — lesbian speed dating, “The Facts of Life” parodies, and more.

These days, Goldman primarily is known for her web series with comedy partner Howard — “In the Box Office” and “Gay Street Therapy" — as well as her stand-up material. The two have also written a feature-length romantic comedy, "The Nicest Thing," about a lesbian couple and an alternative to all the romcoms out there. They're accepting donations to support the film here.

Comedian Julie Goldman has done it all. Stand-up stints at hole-in-the-walls and well-known venues alike. Lesbian festivals such as Dinah Shore. Acclaimed web series.

But now she’s trying something new. Teaming up with fellow comedian Jonny McGovern, the pair is behind this weekend’s “Gayest Weekend of All Time” at St. Petersburg’s Flamingo Resort.
