Florida Democrats are embarking on a tour aimed at slowing the Republican Party of Florida’s expanding voter-registration advantage.

The “Take Back Florida” tour is part of a $1 million push to increase voter registration and raise awareness of re-enrollment requirements to vote by mail and ballot petitions.

Driven by party Chairwoman Nikki Fried and Executive Director Phillip Jerez, stops are planned in at least 18 of Florida’s 67 counties by the end of August, according to the party.

“Unlike Ron DeSantis, we are actually here —- working on the ground and talking to voters about the issues they really care about,” Fried said in a prepared statement.

As of June 30, Florida had 5.26 million registered Republicans and 4.72 million registered Democrats, according to the state Division of Elections. Republicans have held the lead since late 2021, with the gap steadily widening.

In response to a report on the updated numbers, state Republican Chairman Christian Ziegler last week tweeted, “Florida is working!”
