The Florida Conservation Alliance, a state member of the League of Conservation Voters, announced their slate of candidates who they are endorsing in Florida today.

Their list consists mostly of Democrats, with two exceptions.  One being in the race for state Senate in District 16, the Hillsborough/Pinellas seat being vacated by Charlie Justice, where the Alliance is endorsing Jack Latvala in his race against Democrat Nina Hayden.

Latvala, attempting to return to Tallahassee after initially serving from 1994-2002, has always had a strong environmental background. He has won several awards for his commitment in that area, and was mentioned by Dave Rauschkolb, the founder of the anti-off shore drilling event Hands Across the Sand, as helping spread the word about the protests in the Bay area, which ultimately led to an entire state wide effort (months before the BP spill).

The FCA also announced their support for Alex Sink for Governor, as well as St. Petersburg Democratic House member in District 52 Bill Heller, Rick Kriseman in District 53, where he is the ranking Democrat on the House Energy & Utilities Policy Committee, and Keith Fitzgerald in District 69.

The other Republican being endorsed by the group is Melbourne state Senator Thad Altman in District 24.

The other candidates receiving endorsements include Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda in House District 9; Amy Mercado in Florida House District 53; Scott Randolph in House District 36; Mark Pafford in District 88, and Katie Edwards in House District 119.
