Don't die of surprise or anything, but financial site WalletHub has ranked Florida as the number 1 state in American for retirement for 2019. Why? Well, there are lots of reasons. No state income tax. A comparatively inexpensive cost of living. The largest percentage of population 65 and over, so your old self won't be lonely. The site also crunched numbers about stuff like the cost of in-home services, recreational opportunities like museums and theaters and the percentage of folks over retirement age who are actually still in the workforce.

So Florida has plenty for retirees to do, and to do affordably, and with other people their own age.

Who else made the top 5? South Dakota, Colorado, New Hampshire and Virginia. The five worst states for retirees according to WalletHub are Kentucky, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Vermont and New Jersey.
