We've finally reached that brief stretch where the temperature begins to rise and you can almost taste the humidity lurking around the corner, yet the daylight hours are still tolerably warm and the evenings, mild and rather pleasant. All things considered, it's a damn fine time to be hangin' outside, and what better place to appreciate the dwindling days of spring-like weather than in the Grand Central District of St. Petersburg?
This weekend, the Grand Central District Association hosts Classics on Grand Central, a two-day event featuring an open-air screening of a classic movie, along with a classic car show and block party.
Bring your blanket or lawn chair to 26th Street and Central Avenue so you can relax while watching The Women, a 1939 comedy about New York society starring Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford (8:30 p.m. Fri., April 29).
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat., April 30, you can ogle some old-fashioned automobiles while enjoying live entertainment by Tara and Chuck. There's also a slew of grand opening celebrations for new Grand Central businesses, like Fat Cat Ribs, Nectar, and Eclectic Gallery; several existing businesses host anniversary parties as well.
