We're gonna tell ya a little about the Ybor City Fresh Market Inc. this week. We know, we know — we're stretching the definition of freebies on this one, given that the market vendors are there to sell you stuff and all. But we've chosen a good week. Not only does this weekend's market offer the usual free glass of orange juice to all comers, along with free parking around the park and in a few adjacent lots, but a few other special perks for all pre-Easter shoppers.

Held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday in Ybor City's Centennial Park, the market features some of the freshest, locally-grown produce around. If you're looking to cut down your pesticide intake while spending a little less than you would at an organic supermarket, this is the place to do it. In addition to the usual fruits and vegetables, vendors also offer fresh crab claws, shrimp and other seafood, live herbs, bagels and coffee, baked goods and, interestingly enough, cakes decorated to your specifications while you wait. It's the other items up for grabs, however, that separate the Fresh Market from your run-of-the-mill roadside stand. When was the last time that farmer parked on U.S. 19 sold arts and crafts alongside his bruised tomatoes? How about mosaics, stained glass, handmade soaps or jewelry? The Fresh Market's got 'em all, not to mention water gardens (complete with tropical fish), a good variety of nursery plants and plenty of lovely, cut flowers to beautify your surroundings.

As for the aforementioned special perks, the market lures people in further this weekend with its Easter events. Throughout the day, fun stuff includes a petting zoo, pony rides and a cloud bounce for the kids. Ybor's own Creatures of Delight also offer a free workshop at 11 a.m., allowing children to choose a small creature to paint, decorate and call their own. Adults, meanwhile, might want to check out the candlemaking demonstrations by Candle Creations. Face painting and prize giveaways round out the day, and best of all — you're not forced to play bumper carts with your fellow shoppers.

Centennial Park's at Eighth Avenue and 18th Street in Ybor. Call 813-241-2442.
