Land O Lakes Saturday Market- Every Saturday; 9 am-2 pm (through May). The Land O Lakes Saturday Market is a weekly community event with live music. Land O Lakes Saturday Market donates profits to the Heritage Park Foundation and the Suncoast Harvest Food Bank. We are located at the Land O Lakes Community Center, on the west side of US 41 Land O Lakes Blvd., three miles north of SR 54 (across from the Land O Lakes Post Office- Directions).
Guided Hike at Weedon Island Preserve- Every Saturday; 9-11 am. Guided hikes through coastal mangrove and upland ecosystems of the Preserve are held on most Saturdays of the month. Join us to learn about the coastal environment and the early residents of Weedon Island Preserve. Be sure to bring water and a snack for this 2-hour hike. A hat and closed-toe shoes are also recommended. Reserve your space by 2 pm on the Friday prior to the tour of choice. This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Guided Hike at Brooker Creek Preserve- Every Saturday; 9-11 am. Take a walk through time each Saturday morning on a guided hike along the Education Center Trail. Join us for this 0.75 mile walk as we look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended. Pre-registration is required by 12:00 noon on the Friday before the hike. Admission: Free. Intro to Permaculture Class- Saturday, May 8; 12-2 pm. Permaculture, a method of organic gardening, encourages working with the local environment to create sustainable living by implementing sustainable biosystems that provide for their own needs and recycle their own waste. This means planting species that work with the surrounding ecosystem to produce high yields and help neighboring plants thrive all without the use of chemical fertilizers since the soil will nourish itself. Permaculturist Robert Segundo will teach sustainable practices and their implementations in the Florida Landscape, with a focus on Florida micro-climates and the challenges of growing in Pinellas County. The course will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 12-2pm. Course fee is $35 per person or $100 for a four-course series, Student fee $20 per course or $75 for four-part series. Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market- May 9; 9 am-1 pm. (Last one for the season!) In an eclectic neighborhood known for its historic homes and support for small business and community events, Seminole Heights and its pool of forward thinkers have now helped to initiate more sustainability by starting the neighborhoods first open-air, fresh market. Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market will help to continue the drive for circulating local trade and Florida foods by bringing to you a vast mixture of the highest quality, seasonal and locally farmed produce, all natural ready to eat foods, specialty foods, and talented artists. Youll find: local organic and/or hydroponic farmed produce, conventional produce; Florida-grown plants, herbs, and flowers; locally made jams, jellies, salsas, dips, seasonings, sauces and oils. Featuring live music, cooking demos by local chefs, grassy picnic area and shaded seating, and reusable market tote bags for sale, plus public restrooms and parking.
