Guided Hike at Weedon Island Preserve- Saturday, September 12; 9:00 am – 11:00 am. Guided hikes through coastal mangrove and upland ecosystems of the Preserve are held on most Saturdays of the month. Join us to learn about the coastal environment and the early residents of Weedon Island Preserve. Be sure to bring water and a snack for this 2-hour hike. A hat and closed-toe shoes are also recommended. Reserve your space by 2 pm on the Friday prior to the tour of choice. This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Guided Hike at Brooker Creek Preserve- Saturday, September 12; 9-11 am. Take a walk through time each Saturday morning on a guided hike along the Education Center Trail. Join us for this 0.75 mile walk as we look at how the land has changed over time and discuss the ecological footprints left by those changes. Sturdy closed-toe shoes are a must, and water and a hat are recommended. Pre-registration is required by 12:00 noon on the Friday before the hike. Admission: Free. Healthy Home, Healthy Family- Saturday, September 12; 10 am. Discover how the indoor air quality of your home impacts everyone’s health at this research-based workshop sponsored by Pinellas County Extension. The Pinellas County Department of Health and Healthy Homes, St. Pete will be speakers. Learn where pollutants come from, how they affect your life and how to make your home a healthier place for you and your family. The cost is $15 per person. Trash to Treasure Swap Meet at Brooker Creek- Saturday, September 12; 11 am-3pm. Here is your opportunity to pick up new treasures for free. Get green and frugal at the same time by turning your trash into treasures at this swap meet. Drop off or take home the following items: books, videos, DVDs, music CDs, board games, artwork and kitchen household items less than 24" by 24". All items must be in very good or excellent condition and family-friendly. Each household should bring no more than 12 items. More than two million tons of waste is generated each year in Pinellas County. We can reduce that amount by reusing and recycling. Photography Hike at Weedon Island- Sunday, September 13; 8-10 am. This program is designed to provide great opportunities for photographers of all levels. Visitors hike the Preserve in search of that perfect shot. Center staff members highlight seasonal features of the Preserve, as well as specific wildlife behaviors that help participants capture the natural beauty of Weedon Island Preserve. Join the Seminole Heights Community Garden to plant a garden in honor of 9/11- Saturday, September 12. The Seminole Heights Community Gardens has teamed up with Green Florida to plant a native and edible garden for a local community member in honor of those lost eight years ago on 9/11. The event will take place this Saturday, September 12th and SHCG are looking for volunteers to to help with setting up the garden and asking for donations from local community groups. Saturday Summer Market- every Saturday through September 19; 9 am-1pm.
