Florida Agricultural Commissioner and gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried is set to appear at Tampa’s Tiger Bay Club on Oct. 15 at noon for a community forum where she’ll be taking questions from members of Tiger Bay, a nonpartisan political group.

The Tiger Bay Club meeting happens at 2010 N Avenida Republica De Cuba, and tickets for the event are available at tigerbayclub.com.

Fried has served as Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services since 2018, the first woman elected to the post. On June 1, she launched her campaign for governor, and she is running for the Democratic nomination for governor against Congressman and former governor Charlie Crist.

“As the only Democrat in Florida’s cabinet, Nikki has been our voice in Tallahassee, standing up for our rights, our safety, and our democracy,” Fried’s campaign website reads. “She kicked the NRA out of weapons license permitting, legalized hemp for farmers, defended voting rights, and protected our environment. After more than two decades of Republican leadership in Tallahassee, Nikki is running for governor to break Florida’s corrupt, rigged system and build a state that gives power back to us.”

On her website, Fried says she’s been a longtime advocate for criminal justice reform and marijuana legalization, because she saw the devastating impact of injustice within our criminal justice system. As an attorney, Fried says she defended homeowners and stood up to the big banks during the foreclosure crisis, helped secure resources for children in the foster care system, and advocated for medical marijuana.

In a campaign hype video, Fried flashed her own medical marijuana card, and in August said on Twitter that as Governor, she’ll make recreational marijuana legal. She ended the Tweet with her campaign hashtag- #somethingnew.
