Concerned residents and visitors will hit Tampa Bay area beaches and hundreds of locations in the U.S. and abroad this Saturday to join Hands Across the Sand. Hands Across the Sand began with a statewide grassroots effort in February to demonstrate opposition to coastal drilling. Since the Deepwater Horizon gusher began in April, the ‘risks’ of drilling are now a certainty. Florida’s risk from this drilling catastrophe is the most serious our state has ever faced and we must create aggressive, renewable energy policy to end our dangerous dependence on oil.

Hands Across the Sands participants will begin gathering at 11 a.m. to join hands from 12-12:15 p.m.

Prior to the Hands event, Tampa Bay area elected officials will join with local businesses and residents to talk about this threat and the shift to a clean, renewable energy economy. The press conference will be held at the Tradewinds Island Grand Resort (5500 Gulf Blvd.) on St. Pete Beach at 10:45 a.m. Scheduled speakers:
