Having a Ball

Now in its third year, the Fire & Ice Dance Spectacular brings competitive ballroom dancing to Bay-area audiences in a one-day, two-part extravaganza at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.

The first part is a competition for amateur and pro-am couples from across the country. The public is invited to come out and watch for free (10 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m., Ferguson Hall). The second part — a professional competition — is divided into the five divisions of Dancesport. Top North American couples compete for cash and prizes beginning at 8 p.m. in Carol Morsani Hall. Headlining performers include Tony Dovolani and Elena Grinenko from ABC's Dancing With the Stars, and dance champions J.T. Dalamas and Thomasz Mielnicki from PBS's America's Ballroom Challenge.
