Tampa mayoral candidate David Straz used a quote of us making fun of him in his new ad

Now the multimillionaire philanthropist and mayoral candidate is just messing with us.

Last week we published a story that joked about a new television ad for Tampa mayoral candidate and multimillionaire David Straz, and a few days later he actually quoted it in a new ad.

The article, "Inject this new David Straz campaign video directly into my veins," is admittedly subtle, but apparently it was too subtle for Straz's campaign, which featured it prominently in their latest 30-second spot.

“...we think that his brand-new 60-second spot is just the thing to catapult him into the mayor’s office… Your move, Jane Castor,” is the quote the campaign commercial pulled from our story.

But besides wooshing over our article, the ad also features a quip from outgoing Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn (“Mr. Straz has long held Tampa’s best interests in his heart”). The problem with that quote, as BN9 pointed out, is that it came from a release that went out in 2011, and was just recently mentioned in a March 6 article. Straz also used this quote just days after Buckhorn endorsed his opponent Jane Castor.

CL left a message for the Straz campaign... again, but we’re pretty sure he’s just fucking with us and not completely unaware of how irreverent we can be sometimes. (CL did not endorse a candidate in the Tampa mayoral race.) Anyway, give the man some free exposure by watching the spot below. Register to vote in the April 23 runoff via votehillsborough.org
