Cain/Bachmann rally downgraded from stadium to church

Expect a more intimate affair come Aug. 26.

The "Unity Rally 2012" starring Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann that was scheduled to take place at Raymond James Stadium the night before the Republican National Convention begins later this month, has now been moved to a slightly smaller location.

Instead of having those one-time GOP presidential nominees speaking in a 60,000 plus seat stadium that hosts professional and college football games (not to mention monster truck events), the event will now take place at the River Church, located right near Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and I-75. That's according to the Unity Rally 2012 website.

CL was unable to speak with anybody at the River Church to confirm the booking.

Barbara Casey, the spokeswoman for the Tampa Sports Authority, which is responsible for booking events at Raymond James Stadium, confirmed to CL that there were discussions between backers of the rally and the TSA, but they ultimately were unable to come to terms.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, the exact same time that the official welcoming party for delegates and media is being held in St. Petersburg at Tropicana Field.
