Psychologists are hard at work trying to understand why so many women have this same reaction. Some believe it may be a kind of innate mating ritual. One theory suggests that many females simply feel indebted to the male, and experience  a strong need to repay him. Still others believe that this pre-programmed vision of romance directly triggers a woman's sex drive.

Aside from the million-dollar diamond ring, Hilary Duff's engagement was as standard as they come. She went on vacation to a romantic setting. With a dramatic Hawaiian view in the background, Duff's NHL boyfriend and heir to the The Brick furniture empire, Mike Comrie, dropped to a knee and popped the question.
