Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County announces new CEO

  • Maria Pellerin Barcus

Seven months after their last CEO announced he was leaving, the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County has a new leader.

Maria Pellerin Barcus is the new hire. From 1994 to 2006, she led Carrfour Supportive Housing, Florida’s largest nonprofit affordable housing developer.

“Mrs. Barcus is an excellent fit for the coalition,” Search Committee Chair Guy King said in a press release. “She is a results driven leader with extensive experience in facilitating public-private partnerships to find collaborative, creative approaches to ending homelessness in Florida.”

A Cuba native, Barcus also founded the Florida Supportive Housing Coalition in 2001. She was most recently associated with Housing Partners of Florida, which she helped found in 2007.

Barcus holds an MBA in Real Estate and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Florida.

She replaces Rayme Knuckles, who stepped down from his post at the Coalition last April.
