A new Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday morning shows for the first time in over half a year, President Obama leads Mitt Romney in a head-to-head matchup in Florida, 49-42 percent.

Obama fares even better against the only other viable Republican in the general election race, former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum. The president leads him by a 50-37 percent in the Sunshine State.

But, according to Quinnipiac, Obama's lead has at least as much to do with the Republicans' unpopularity as anything that he's been doing himself. In terms of his own job approval ratings, 47 percent of Floridians support him, and 49 percent disapprove of his work as commander in chief.
