International Currency

An MC recently relocated to Sarasota from Syracuse, N.Y., Nick Case (aka DeCoy) has released his second disc, the EP International Currency, a bright spot in what has become an increasingly moribund Suncoast hip-hop scene. DeCoy coasts with his relaxed flow on tracks like "Hands Up," the title track and "What I Do," accompanied by some banging tracks. A couple of criticisms: 1. As an EP, it feels bloated, with an instrumental version of "International Currency" and an a cappella "What I Do" included for no apparent reason; 2. While DeCoy has a slick delivery, his subjects are tired, full of braggadocio about cash and fast living. Maybe he'll fit in Sarasota just fine.
