As Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio's reign in office comes down to its last weeks, the popular outgoing leader won't see her her dream of having light rail become a reality in the city happening under her watch.
But at least there was the possibility of high speed rail coming to town by 2015, right?
No, that's not happening now either, as everybody now knows that Rick Scott has ended that dream in Florida earlier on Wednesday.
In a press release, the Mayor denounces Scott's decision, saying she is "terribly disappointed," adding that it is a "bad decision for all Floridians."
Iorio says flat out that Scott's reasoning doesn't support the decision. Read below her main points:
- The Governor has basically given $2.3 billion of federal money to another state that will gladly accept the funding and use it for infrastructure. Remember that Floridians currently pay a portion of the gas tax that goes into this $2.3 billion. Therefore the tax money of Floridians will go to support transit in another state.
