Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will not be a candidate for president, validating every would-be pundit who declared that would always be the case months ago when his assault on President Obama, specifically questioning his status as an American citizen, spurred a quick surge in GOP polls.

But the last week of April crushed any real chance that Trump had of breaking through. That's when Obama 1) produced his actual certificate of live birth 2) eviscerated (along with Seth Meyers) Trump in a standup comedy routine at the White House Correspondents Dinner that Saturday night 3) announced to the world that Sunday night that a CIA-led Navy SEAL team had assassinated Osama bin Laden.

Game, set and match, Obama. And thanks for playing, Mr. Trump.
